Weight Loss



Weight loss, in the context of medicine or health or physical fitness, is a reduction of the total body weight, due to a mean loss of fluid, body fat or adipose tissue and/or lean mass, namely bone mineral deposits, muscle, tendon and other connective tissue.*

Attending Total Fitness gyms can help with weight loss through exercise and dedication. Whether you prefer to work out on your own, in a class or with a personal trainer, weight loss can be made easier at Total Fitness Ireland.

Each of our Total Fitness gyms are equipped with over 200 pieces of CV and resistance equipment, the ideal machines to use to help with weight loss. All of our gyms have a large free weights area, free family gyms so the whole family can achieve their weight loss goal, up to 4 studios with numerous free fitness classes per week, each designed to enhance your workout routine and aid weight loss including a dedicated spinning class, aerobics class and mind and body studios. Members will also have the use of 3 swimming pools including hydrotherapy, training and aquafit facilities. All of the facilities are in place for members who want to get fit or who need help with weight loss.

Many people feel weight loss is easier if done as part of a group so at Total Fitness Ireland you are never far from your next exercise class. We have classes to suit all tastes and exercise levels including those that will aid weight loss. At Total Fitness Ireland we are currently running 2 new exciting programmes, ideal for aiding weight loss, Total Combat and Total Pump.

If you are not comfortable attending classes to aid your weight loss Total Fitness Ireland offer a wide range of water based activities for members, including swimming lessons, catering for all ages and swimming abilities. Total Swim is a programme of colour coded progressive cards for our members to follow, and if followed correctly will give you a total water workout and help with weight loss.

Personal training is available in all of our gyms. If you are interested in weight loss, feeling fitter, achieving your health and fitness goals but need that extra motivation then a personal trainer is the answer.

As a member of Total Fitness Irleand you will receive the following checks and assessments during your membership journey which will help with weight loss...

Memership start - Health Check (15 mins)

In your Health Check and Lifestyle Consultation, you will be asked about:

  • Your current physical activity levels
  • Your lifestyle
  • Goals
  • Recent health / medical history
  • Blood pressure measured

Starter Programme (45 mins)

During this appointment your instructor will provide you with a suitable and progressive exercise programme, for those of you interested in weight loss this will be tailored to help you achieve your goal in a safe way:

  • For example, 2-3 pieces of appropriate cardiovascular (cardio) equipment e.g. Treadmill, Bike, Rower or Cross-Trainer, each of which are ideal for aiding weight loss
  • Some abdominal exercises
  • Flexibility (static stretches and mobility exercises)
  • There may also be a specific exercise class that will help aid weight loss and enable you to reach your goal

Follow Up Appointment (30 mins 2 to 3 weeks after SP)

  • The instructor may add in some strength exercises
  • Sample starter exercises may include, Leg press, Chest press, Seated Row
  • Adults - 1 set of 8-12 repetitions
  • Juniors and Older Adults - 1 set of 10-15 repetitions

Review (30 mins Every 4 to 6 weeks)

We will assess your progress and weight loss and will make any changes to your exercise routine in order to help you to continue to improve and continue your weight loss. We may adapt an existing exercise or introduce one to two new exercises or help you choose a different programme on a piece of cardio equipment. We will increase the challenge - gradually. We recommend that you book in for a free 30 mins review every 4-6 weeks.
